English

English / Literacy is taught throughout the school. The programme is followed in KS3 in 7 lessons per week of which 1 is a reading focused lesson and 1 is an extended writing lesson.
In KS4 students follow the AQA Entry Level Certificate and GCSE (Welsh Board).  Year 12 follow the Asdan and Asdan Transitional programmes.
The English Literacy curriculum is supported by 'Toe by Toe,' a structured phonological programme for all students and by SULP (Social Use of Language Programme) in KS3.  The phonological awareness programme is a synthesis of both synthetic and anaylitical phonics, look and say, and sight words.  The Department values the access to the English curriculum through ICT.
Role play is an essential part of the English curriculum which follow, in most cases, the National Literacy Strategy structures.  Further enhancement to the programme is provided through a Resource Room and Reading scheme, with support material and learning areas equipped with computers, DVDs, Videos, camera and an Interactive White Board.
