Language & CommThe language and communications team supports pupils whose special needs arise from their difficulties with speech, language and communication, Aspergers and Autism. Pupils in these classes are well supported with mostly two additional Learning Support Assistants to ensure they all benefit from the high levels of specialist intervention and a curriculum which provides a wide range of school and community based learning and social opportunities. 'The curriculum is very relevant to pupils' needs because it stresses communication, personal and social skills.' Staff incorporate the principles of the TEACCH approach. PEC’s, Makaton and appropriate symbols are used to enable pupils access to the curriculum. All of our pupils are included in a thriving school community which include special clubs and a variety of activities to raise self esteem and help encourage all pupils to become positive citizens.
We aim to all work together to create a happy and caring environment which enables our pupils to learn and communicate with confidence, and grow to become valued members of society. |
