MFL

The aim of the French department is to provide quality teaching in a stimulating environment to all students in Key Stages 3 & 4, regardless of their ability, gender, ethnic or cultural background. Once a week, students are given the opportunity to experience success and develop their existing strengths in the areas of listening, speaking, reading or writing.

In years 7 to 9, students develop their knowledge and understanding of basic vocabulary related to everyday situations with a focus on verbal communication. In years 10 & 11, all students’ language skills are developed further and can be awarded with the externally assessed Entry Level Certificate (ELC). Since its introduction in 1999, all entered students have passed the ELC, mostly with a Distinction or Merit.

All students from year 9 onwards (including the 6th Form) are invited to go to the Boulogne region in Northern France for a day visit one year, followed by a three to four day visit to Paris the following year.
