PSHCEPSHE and C is a very important part of the work of Little Heath School as it addresses one of the pupils’ areas of greatest need and greatest success.
PSHE topics include relationships, personal safety, relaxation, anger management, planning for the future, study skills and healthy living. The subject is taught as a specific lesson by form tutors but also is a central part of daily life at the school. For instance assemblies, charity days, the annual sponsored walk, the celebration of festivals from a variety of religious faiths and cultural traditions, the recycling work and the Jack Petchey awards all contribute to the personal development of pupils. The school’s Home and Community Development Officer provides a link between school and national charity events such as Jeans for Genes, Children in Need, Comic Relief, and Samaritans Purse Xmas shoe box appeal. This is an important part of a pupil’s life enabling them to be part of the wider community. The school involves the community police officer and the school nurse in providing aspects of PSHE.
In key stage 3, all pupils receive one lesson per week of PSHE and C. In key stage 4 pupils also have one lesson a week of Careers Education as well as PSHE and C. Every tutor group meets their form tutor for the last period of the week. |
