At Little Heath School, we take a unique approach to speech and language therapy. Rather than keeping it separate, we weave therapy techniques seamlessly into everyday classroom activities. Our Techniques
We understand that every child is unique, which is why we offer a variety of therapy approaches to meet diverse needs:
- Aided Language Stimulation: Through visual aids like communication boards and symbols, we help students express themselves confidently in the classroom.
- Makaton: Using signs and symbols, we support students in navigating their learning environment with ease.
- AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication): Students with complex communication needs have access to various tools ranging from core boards to high tech AAC devices, ensuring active participation in class discussions and projects.
- Attention Autism: We use engaging activities to enhance attention, communication, and social interaction, creating a positive learning atmosphere.
- Colourful Semantics: We incorporate this color-coded systems to teach sentence structure and grammar, helping students to express themselves more clearly. This approach is integrated into lessons, ensuring that language development is woven into the fabric of our curriculum.
- Blank Levels: We support students’ with developing their understanding and response to different questions, starting from basic questions leading to more complex questions that require abstract answers.
- Zones of Regulation: By helping students develop emotional and self-regulation skills, we create a supportive environment for communication and social interactions.
